Initial posting

Happy is an exchange student living with the Molloy family in Oregon. On December 30 we went skiing/snowboarding and on the last run of the day Happy lost control and hit a tree, suffering a severe head injury. The accident occurred near the warming hut, shown in the photo of Happy at Ski Bowl.

Happy was rushed via ambulance and helicopter to OHSU. An initial CT scan revealed a fractured skull and a blood clot on his brain that was causing too much inner cranial pressure. There are no spinal cord injuries. The team of doctors immediately performed surgery to open his skull to clean up the blood clot and inserted a drain to allow them to monitor and regulate the pressure in his cranium.

A post op CT scan revealed additional small blood clots but the doctors believe that these will be reabsorbed with out additional surgery. We are awaiting another CT scan and additional tests to study blood flow in the brain (CT angiogram)

Happy is STABLE but in critical condition in the ICU. For now only family members are permitted to visit.
